A lot of Chelsea supporters are not particularly satisfied with how the team has fared in the 2018-19 season. The Blues’ performance can’t be termed bad but they might go trophy less this season. They certainly don’t have any chance to lift the Premiership trophy and they missed the opportunity to clinch the Cup as well recently as they were beaten at the hands of Manchester City in the title round.
But Sarri, contrary to the popular opinion, already sees the ongoing season as a successful one for the Blues. According to Sarri, as far as the Cup is concerned, the title round match was decided in the penalty shootout and as far as the Premiership is concerned, this is a slightly better performance in comparison to the previous season when the margin between them and the team at the top of the table was 30 points. That margin has come down to 22, that’s an improvement and the team is only going to get better from here.
Sarri recalled his stint at Napoli where he had taken charge in similar circumstances. There also the team was far, far away from the champions Juventus, but Sarri gradually reduced the margin as he stayed there for three years and he is pretty confident about doing the same at Chelsea if he gets to work with the team for that long.
Sarri doesn’t promise to make Chelsea the Premiership champions suddenly in a season or two but he definitely promises that the margin between them and the table toppers won’t be as big as it is at this stage.
“I am sure, that in two seasons, we will be able to close to them. But I am not sure, in two seasons; we’ll be able to be better than them.” Sarri was quoted saying by The Guardian.
