The agent of the Brazilian defender Maicon has revealed to Chelsea Football News that his client did not choose the likes of Real Madrid and Chelsea and decided to join Manchester city due to the presence of the manager Roberto Mancini.
Maicon has previously worked with the current Manchester city manager Roberto Mancini. He was part of the Inter Milan team that won many titles under Roberto Mancini. Even though he has played in the former manager José Mourinho, Maicon decided to join Manchester city instead according to his agent. This revelation clearly shows that Chelsea were keen on bringing the Brazilian to Stamford Bridge.
The 31-year-old defender was regarded as one of the best attacking right backs in the world. Even though he may have become inconsistent in the last few seasons, he is still regarded as someone on top of his game. As a result, he had been linked with the likes of Chelsea, Real Madrid and the French club PSG. He recently sealed a move to the Premier league through Manchester city. He is expected to have cost the Premier league club around £ 6 million. His agent has now revealed that his client had snubbed offers from Chelsea and Real Madrid before sealing to move to Manchester city.
“He chose Manchester City after rather a long evaluation process. All the top clubs who needed someone in that role came looking for Maicon, from Real Madrid via Jose Mourinho to PSG, Chelsea and others. Maicon made his decision when Roberto Mancini called, as he had started his Inter adventure with this coach seven years ago,” Calenda told Sky Sport Italia. Chelsea, though, had already brought in a replacement for the former defender José Bosingwa in the form of the Marseille defender Cesar Azpilicueta, who cost the club around the same money.
